Horizon Technology’s SPE-DEX 4790 is a fully automated sample preparation system designed to process samples for trace level analysis of organic chemical contaminants from aqueous samples using EPA methods for solid phase extraction (SPE).
The SPE-DEX 4790 extraction system uses SPE technology to replace the labour-intensive liquid-liquid extraction (LLE) technique. In addition to delivering accurate, more consistent results, SPE technology improves both sample processing times and solvent use. Solvent consumption is cut by up to 90% compared to traditional LLE methods. Typical sample run times are around 20 to 35 minutes for a one litre sample. This includes disk conditioning, sample processing, rinsing and extraction.
Unattended operation increases the overall productivity of the laboratory as personnel are freed up for other projects and variability between chemists’ techniques is eliminated. The SPE-DEX 4790 processes samples directly from the original sample bottle. It delivers all solvents, regulates sample processing and disk drying times, rinses the sample bottle and collects the extract automatically.
The system offers bench-top operation and the modular design allows for as many eight extractors to be linked and controlled simultaneously or as independent modules maximising method flexibility. SPE-DEX is able handle sample volumes from 200 ml to 4 litres, easily accommodating SPE disks.
