Hirschmann has extended its product range to include a new fan-free PoE/PoE Plus module for workgroup switches in the MACH100 range. The module, which possesses eight Fast Ethernet ports (10/100 BASE-TX), provides each attached terminal with either 15 W (PoE) or 30 W (PoE Plus). For each MACH100 switch two modules can be used for a total of 16 ports.
With PoE Plus, each module can use four ports. It is also possible to operate PoE and PoE Plus ports simultaneously up to a total power of 120 W. This means that the new module offers considerable flexibility. For additional flexibility, the Module’s PoE Plus ports can also be used to power relatively high-rated terminal equipment such as IP cameras with pan-tilt-zoom, Voice over IP videophones or multiband WLAN access points.
These modules, which are protected against electrostatic discharges, magnetic fields and interference, are plug-and-play and hot-swappable. Network management software and a Web interface facilitate configuration and diagnostics. The PoE/PoE Plus power supply is generated in a three pin terminal block and conveyed via pairs 1/2 and 3/6 (phantom power).
Hirschmann-branded MACH100 modular Fast Ethernet switches support Profinet and EtherNet/IP and can be used to network workgroups via copper or fibre-optic cables and connect them to the backbone via two Gigabit combo ports. The switches, designed to operate in the temperature range 0° to +50°C, also offer extensive management and redundancy procedures and a variety of functions for configuration and diagnostics.
With its new PoE/PoE Plus module for MACH100 switches in the Hirschmann product series, Belden has demonstrated its leadership in industrial network technology. Product manager, Pascal Unterdorfer, says, “Until now there has not been a fan-free solution occupying the height of only one unit yet offering such a concentration of PoE/PoE Plus ports. This gives users the greatest possible flexibility.”

Introduction to Part 2 loop signatures and process transfer functions
Fieldbus & Industrial Networking
The previous series of loop signature articles dealt with the basics of control loop optimisation, and concentrated on troubleshooting and ‘SWAG’ tuning of simple processes. In this new series, consideration will be given to dealing practically with more difficult issues like interactive processes, and with processes with much more complex dynamics.
