The Durag D-R 290 optical opacity/dust monitor, supplied by OEN Enterprises, provides continuous in situ dust and opacity measurement in plants with dust levels above 50 mg /m³. The monitor is ideally suited to systems firing coal, fuel oil or fuel mixtures, Typical applications are in converter plants, asphalt mixing plants and cement production plants.
The system consists of a measuring head, reflector, control and display unit, purge air system and mounting flanges. The microprocessor-based monitor utilises the double pass auto-collimation principle, where a light beam crosses the measurement path twice and the light attenuation is measured. Optics and electronics are housed in a hermetically sealed unit to prevent smoke or dust from entering the device.
The D-R 290 has adjustable opacity measurement ranges from 0–20% or 0–100%. Dust levels can range from 0-4000 mg/m³ in duct diameters from 1 to 18 metres. Programming is done through the control display unit or remote bus interface and the output data is available as analogue current or digitally via the bus.
The monitor is suitable for use in an ambient temperature range from 20 to 50°C with IP54 protection. Various user options are available, including explosion-proof operation, automatic fail-safe shutters, temperature compensation, an on-stack display panel and a filter set for sensitivity and linearity control.
