Universal voltage surge arrester
November 2010
Electrical Power & Protection
The Blitzductor XTU, from DEHN’s Yellow/Line family, is a universal voltage surge arrester for instrumentation and automation systems that adapts itself to the nominal voltage of the installation. As the nominal voltage is not specified, the arrester can be used for all voltages in the 0-180 VDC range. Its innovative technology allows the arrester to automatically detect the signal voltage and adapt itself continuously. The arresters are suited for retrofitting existing systems with surge protective devices or replacing existing arresters where it is not clear which nominal voltage should be used.
XTU are pluggable arresters consisting of a BXTU protection module and a DIN rail mountable BXT base part. The base part features terminals for two pairs of wires and earths to the DIN rail. An uninterrupted switch contact allows the protection modules to be removed and inserted without interrupting system operation. Blitzductor XTU arresters also feature a LifeCheck monitoring function which allows for easy testing of arresters during operation. This monitoring function allows users to detect arresters pre-damaged by overload thus ensuring safe operation.
