CHI Control Components is launching the CIRCUTOR range of products into the South African market. CIRCUTOR is a company specialising in the design and marketing of innovative electrical energy efficiency products. These products include the CIRWATT B range of energy meters suitable for billing applications as well as a new dynamic OPC data exchange module for the POWER STUDIO supervision and control system.

The CIRWATT B range of energy meters are single phase active energy meters with power line carrier (PLC) communications that complies with IEC Standards. The unit includes PLC communications through the power grid and an optical port. Both types of communications use the IEC-870-5-102 protocol. It also includes a recorder that can store up to three months of hourly records. It includes a circuit breaker, which can be used to control the supply demand reliably and safely.

The main application is the measuring of active and reactive energy for billing purposes, whenever a meter with high performance features is required at an optimised cost. PLC communications can be used for the remote download of all data recorded by the meter through a PLC800 concentrator.

The circuit breaker integrated in the meter can be used to manage the supply remotely, opening/closing the circuit breaker and programming the hired power above a value that will activate the circuit breaker, opening it and re-closing it to guarantee safety for the final user.

CIRCUTOR has also developed and improved its POWER STUDIO supervision and control system and is launching a new dynamic OPC data exchange module (OLE for Process Control) for top level applications.

The OPC server is a tool based on a communication standard. Its format is widely accepted and adopted by most scada software manufacturers in the market. The concept is based on feeding all information related to the energy consumption of a plant into the software via a gateway. The aim is to facilitate the extraction of important ratios, as well as the kWh consumed by the production item or unit.
