Siemens presents its portfolio to KZN

Hosted at the Suncoast Casino and Conference Centre, the process instrumentation division of Siemens showcased its products and solutions for the first time to a captive KZN audience. “Competitive advantage in the process industry relies on the ability to make processes faster, more flexible, more efficient and above all, more cost effective,” said Ryan Chetty, divisional manager for Sensors and Communications. “For more than 160 years, the Siemens brand has grown to represent product quality, continuously and consistently reliable service levels and long term sustainability for our customers and their plant.”

Over time, and especially in recent years, Siemens has made acquisitions with the aim of becoming a TIA (Totally Integrated Automation) supplier, and in the process, ensuring that quality be maintained as first in its class. In his opening address Ryan made mention of this as he discussed Siemens’ comprehensive instruments portfolio for industry. “From individual customised products or a complete system solution, our TIA platform means full integration into data management, communications, configuration and programming,” he said.

Supported by Nimelen Pillay, sales manager for KZN, the conference was structured around the product and process presentations by Greg Smook, Stephen Scheepers and Henry De Villiers who together have accumulated more than a hundred years worth of instrumentation knowledge.

TIA defined

Totally Integrated Automation is characterised by its unique degree of integration which ensures a high level of transparency at all plant levels – from the field to production control and the corporate management level. The concept provides considerable benefits throughout the entire plant life cycle, from the initial planning and engineering stages, commissioning, operations and maintenance right through to modernisation and was aptly demonstrated to the audience by Gary Wilson who presented on how TIA can be adapted to the instruments industry.

“The process instruments designed by Siemens have been perfectly integrated into the TIA concept. Our complete process instrumentation and process analytical range complements the high quality products that currently exist, from automation systems solutions through to switchgear, drives, gearboxes and motors. This is what makes Siemens the largest automation company in the world,” Gary explained.

Key industries

In the field of process instrumentation, process analytics and weighing technology, Siemens focuses on a number of key industries, including chemical, pharmaceutical, water/wastewater, mining, aggregates, cement, oil and gas/hydrocarbon processing, pulp and paper, food and beverage, and marine.

Thanks to the standard Profibus, Foundation Fieldbus or HART communications interface, easy integration of existing and future components is possible. In short, Siemens is a one-stop partner for field instrumentation and analytics,” concluded Ryan at the end of the opening address.
