PSU for lighting applications

December 2009 Electrical Power & Protection

After introducing the aluminium cased CLG family and fully enclosed plastic cased PLN, PLC, ELN, LP families of LED power supplies, MEAN WELL has launched another LED product category, an AC/DC open frame type for low-cost built-in LED lighting related applications.

Featuring 90-264 VAC input range and built-in active PFC function, PLP-45 series complies with EN61000-3-2 Class C (harmonic current) and PF>0,9 when output loading is higher than 75%.

The simplified single stage PFC topology allows the required high power factor to be achieved economically. Through adjustment of the built-in potentiometer, the output current limit can be set between 75 and 100% of rated value for increased flexibility of system design. Other standard functions include short circuit, over load, and over voltage protections. The case-less 100 x 50 mm miniature PCB design makes the PLP-45 series well suited to applications in built-in LED lighting fixtures. Typical applications include general indoor LED lighting, LED-based decorative lighting and LED electrical displays.
