Economical solution to on-line COD measurement

LAR has developed a range of analysers for the measurement of biological and chemical oxygen demand (BOD and COD) as well as for the determination of the toxicity of sewage. Known as the Elox 100, the instrument was designed to have low operating and service costs. It has a self-cleaning measurement cell, automatic calibration and a power consumption of less than 50 W.
The design offers performance previously only available from the most expensive off-line analysers, says LAR. A worldwide-patented electrochemical method was developed by LAR that, by the action of an electrical current on an electrode, produces OH-radicals as the oxidising agent. OH-radicals have a higher oxidation potential than common oxidising agents (ozone, hydrogen peroxide).
A key feature of the Elox 100 is its ability to provide a measured COD within 30 s of the sample delivery, and with a considerably wide measuring range of between 1 and 100 000 mg/l COD. This range should cover the needs for monitoring and process control for both industrial and municipal treatment plants.
