Pure water from potable

April 2009 Analytical Instrumentation & Environmental Monitoring

Environmentally friendly system provides consistently high quality pure water for demanding requirements.

Millipore Corporation, a life science leader providing technologies, tools and services for bioscience research and biopharmaceutical manufacturing, has introduced the new Elix Advantage water purification system, which provides high quality pure water from tap. Featuring Millipore’s patented Elix electro-deionisation technology and outstanding ergonomics, coupled with a green design philosophy, the system offers users the best in pure water quality and convenience.

The Elix Advantage system is a modular, easily adaptable solution that can be bench-integrated or wall-installed to fit the needs of today’s laboratories. The ergonomic design of the system’s water dispenser – the E-POD (Elix water point of delivery) unit – allows convenient placement in the lab for efficient, pressurised pure water dispensing, when and where it is needed. As many as three E-POD units per system can be connected for manual and volumetric dispensing at flow rates of up to 2 l/min. All necessary information for daily use, such as water quality and system status, is visible on the unit’s graphic display. A range of point-of-use filters exists to adapt the E-POD units for use in specific applications.

The system combines Millipore’s state-of-the-art Elix electro-deionisation technology with the best purification technologies – Progard pre-treatment cartridge, advanced reverse osmosis and a 254 nm UV lamp. The Elix Advantage system is designed to meet or exceed requirements as described by ISO 3696 (Grade 2 water); ASTM D1193 (Type II resistivity and TOC Table I specifications); and by the United States, European and Japanese pharmacopoeias for purified water. System users gain peace of mind thanks to advanced monitoring capabilities that provide product water quality and delivery measurements.

In addition, system users will benefit from low maintenance and well-controlled running costs, thanks to the environmentally friendly Elix technology. A pure water recirculation loop in the system decreases the volume of potable water required for pure water production.
