There has recently been a major trend worldwide towards controlling drives directly from the AS-Interface network. All modes, functions and status indications of the SEW MOVIMOT drive can now be controlled directly from the AS-Interface with a specially developed module designed and manufactured by IFM Electronic.
Here in South Africa, a joint effort between Shorrock Automation and SEW Eurodrive has resulted in what Shorrock says is the first local intelligent drive set-up using the AS-Interface system. Shorrock Automation's new AC1150 module provides a simple, yet effective method of controlling SEW's MOVIMOT drives.
All functions and status indications are controlled and monitored by the AS-Interface input and output bits and passed onto the SEW inverter by means of an RS485 link. The conversion from AS-INTERFACE to RS485 is done electronically; therefore there is no extra work involved for the user. The user has the option of four different modes that the drive can operate in. These modes vary from selecting preset speeds, to controlling the drive with a standard analog function block that enables the drive to perform as a VSD. The AS-Interface system supplies 24 V to the drive eliminating the need for any additional power supplies.
