New EtherCAT single-turn and multiturn encoders in the robust Sendix design now complement the versatile Sendix absolute family from Kübler. This is in response to the increasing importance of the new fieldbus generation based on Ethernet technology.
The wide temperature range -40 to +80°C opens up a wide variety of applications without additional cost
The popularity of EtherCAT is based on its universal application possibilities in the field of industry and building automation. By using EtherCAT the user can profit in various areas. A continuous signal down to the field level, realtime capability, distributed clock for realtime position detection and hot connect lead in many applications to significant cost advantages, while at the same time offering improved productivity.
Sendix EtherCAT single-turn and multiturn encoders enable up-to-the-minute fieldbus performance in the application and work on the CAN over EtherCAT (CoE) principle. On top of this the devices offer numerous special functions such as temperature monitoring, recording of operating time as well as storing customer data in plain text, for example the installation location.
A further plus is the fast data availability with reduced loading on the bus and controller as well as the transmission of speed/velocity, acceleration or leaving of a working area – here the user himself decides which information is available in realtime (PDO mapping in the memory).
The encoders offer a high level of safety thanks to the Safety-Lock bearing construction. The interlocked bearings with their large span ensure stability when subjected to vibration and impart a ruggedness that is forgiving of installation errors and minimises machine downtime and repairs.
Kübler’s integrative OptoASIC technology reduces the electronics and sensor optics to just a few components, which improves the reliability. The solid die-cast housing with its IP 67 protection rating stays sealed even in harsh everyday use and offers a high level of security against failures in the field.
The resolution for the single turn devices is 16 bit with a total resolution of 28 bit and for the multiturn devices up to 12 bit. The bus cover is equipped with 3 x M12 connectors for fast error-free connection.
Acoustic warning and alarm signals inform the customer of sensor faults, under-voltage supply and over temperature operation. Fault diagnosis is therefore much simpler, allowing the measures necessary to correct the problem to be taken without delay, in order to avoid long machine downtimes.
All operating parameters are programmable via the bus, ensuring fast error free start-up.
Introduction to Part 2 loop signatures and process transfer functions
Fieldbus & Industrial Networking
The previous series of loop signature articles dealt with the basics of control loop optimisation, and concentrated on troubleshooting and ‘SWAG’ tuning of simple processes. In this new series, consideration will be given to dealing practically with more difficult issues like interactive processes, and with processes with much more complex dynamics.
