Isolated communication converter

Most industrial computer systems come with standard RS232 serial ports. Though widely accepted, RS232 has limited transmission speed, range, and networking capabilities. Advantech’s RS422 and RS485 converters overcome these limitations by using differential lines for data and control signals. The ADAM-4520 converter lets the user take advantage of RS422 and RS485 on systems originally equipped with RS232. It transparently converts RS232 signals into isolated RS422 or RS485 signals.

There is no need to change the PC's hardware or software. ADAM-4520 allows the user to easily build an industrial grade, long distance communication system with standard PC hardware. It extends the communication distance by 1200 m or increases the maximum number of connected nodes by 32.

ADAM-4520 provides 3000 V d.c. isolation and incorporates surge protection for the RS485 data lines. With transmission speeds up to 115,2 Kbits/sec, ADAM-4520 operates from a +10 to +30 V d.c. supply and mounts easily on a DIN-rail, panel or piggyback.
