The Danntech Redostat has been developed in South Africa using locally designed and manufactured electronic process control components. Designed to control redox potential and other primary variables in leaching applications, the device has also been used in a futuristic experiment to grow bacteria on synthesised Martian soil.
In many mineral systems leaching agent is ferric ions, regenerated in situ by a primary oxidant, such as oxygen. The problem in batch leaching experiments is that the concentrations of reagents, and hence the redox potential, changes considerably during the course of the reaction. Since these are the primary variables in the leaching reaction, such changes in concentration make the interpretation of data problematic. The Redostat leaching control system provides the apparatus to overcome the dilemma and scale-up operations from continuous autoclaves to heap leaching operations.
The system fully developed by Danntech, from the electro-chemical sensor to the software; provides all the necessary interfaces to allow users to adjust redox set-points manually or automatically.
