X-Stream in situ oxygen transmitter

January 2008 Analytical Instrumentation & Environmental Monitoring

Emerson Process Management, a leader in oxygen flue gas analyser technology, recently introduced its latest innovation in zirconium oxide, in situ oxygen analysers - the Rosemount Analytical X-Stream oxygen transmitter. The company says that using the latest analytical technology, the transmitter integrates oxygen probe and field electronics into a single, compact package with unprecedented reliability.

"The X-Stream AccuMax offers the best accuracy and stability of any analyser we have ever produced," said Doug Simmers, product manager for Rosemount Analytical. According to Simmers, today's sustained fuel price increases are causing customers to operate boilers and furnaces with less excess oxygen in their flue gas in order to maintain the best efficiency, and also to lower nitrogen oxide emissions.

Maximum flue gas temperature has been increased to 850°C (1,562°F) permitting placement of the probe closer to the combustion process. Integral electronics minimise the cabling and installation cost, and the active sensing core can be replaced in minutes without unbolting the probe flange or disconnecting electrical terminations or pneumatic lines.

The transmitter incorporates HART Communications with EDDL protocol, which provides a link to Emerson Process Management's PlantWeb digital architecture. Setup, calibration and service diagnostics can be performed remotely with the HART 375 handheld communicator. Alternatively a single or dual Xi enhanced interface is available with advanced features such as automatic calibration, built in stochiometer and programmable references.
