Safety system for oil platform in Nigeria

Honeywell Southern Africa's Safety Management Systems Division has been awarded a contract by Chevron in Nigeria to supply a failsafe control (FSC) system in the refurbishment of a fire and gas application. To be installed on the Roberkiri Oil Production Platform on the Niger River Delta, about 40 km from Port Harcourt, the new system will utilise the latest FSC/PlantScape integrated Ethernet communications link to allow transfer of signals, status, sequence of events data and FSC diagnostic information between the safety control and plant-wide control systems.

The new Honeywell system will replace old panel-mounted controllers, indicators, switches and relays with PlantScape for control whilst the Honeywell FSC system will provide emergency shut-down (ESD) and fire and gas (F&G) interlocking. The system is also required to integrate with third party equipment, including a PA system.

Working with Honeywell's technology partner in the region, Makon Engineering, the system is due for delivery in January and commissioning is scheduled for March 2001.
