Meters measure UV levels

MIT manufactures a range of UV meters under licence to the CSIR which originally developed this product portfolio. The full range includes UV-A, UV-B and UV-C meters and the spectral response closely approximates the spectral characteristics of these bands.
The measuring range of the meters is from 0,1 to 200 000 μW/cm² depending on the model. The detection system can be built into the meter or a probe can be connected to the display instrument. A 'Smart' version of the UV meter will accept any probe, with calibration data being stored in the probe itself. The remote probe allows measurements to be taken without exposing the user to dangerous levels of ultraviolet. The accuracy of the meters is between 5 and 15%, depending on the range being measured. The meters are powered from a 9 V battery, which allows approximately 180 hours functioning for the non-Smart meters.
Calibration of the units can be organised with the National Metrology Institute of South Africa (NMISA) which recently became independent of the CSIR.
