Current clamps measure up to 3000 A

July 2007 Maintenance, Test & Measurement, Calibration

Comtest has released four new current clamps for extending the functionality of multimeters, oscilloscopes and dataloggers.

Hall-effect current clamps

The i30 and i30s AC/DC current clamps use advanced Hall effect technology for accurate non-intrusive measurement of AC and DC currents. They are designed for use with multimeters, oscilloscopes, dataloggers and other recording instruments, and measure current up to 30 A with 1 mA resolution. The i30 has a bandwidth up to 20 kHz, while the i30s goes up to 100 kHz. This model also has a BNC connector, making it suitable for connection to an oscilloscope. Both types feature a patented magnetic circuit design that enables users to measure low currents over a wide bandwidth and with high resolution. Typical applications include invertors, switch mode power supplies and industrial controllers requiring current measurement and/or waveform analysis.

Rogowski current clamps

The i2000 Flex and i3000s Flex AC current clamps utilise the Rogowski principle to measure current, which means they have lightweight flexible loop coils that are suitable for fixing around irregular shaped or large diameter conductors and fuse assemblies in difficult-to-access locations. The i3000s Flex has a bandwidth of up to 50 kHz and measures currents up to 3000 A. It is fitted with BNC connectors for use in conjunction with oscilloscopes, recorders or dataloggers. There are three versions of this model: the i3000s-Flex 36 with a 36-inch (914 mm) loop for conductors with a diameter up to 275 mm; the i3000-Flex 24 with a 24-inch (610 mm) loop for conductors with a diameter up to 170 mm; and the i3000-Flex 4PK which is supplied with a four-phase kit. The i2000 Flex is intended for use with digital multimeters, and can measure currents up to 2000 A. It has a bandwidth up to 20 kHz and is only available with the 24-inch (610 mm) loop.
