Non-contact radar sensing is well-suited for continuous level measurement of molten metal. Vega's solution for this application is the Vegapuls 66, a robust instrument capable of delivering accurate measurement data in operating temperatures of up to 400°C.

In applications at metal furnaces, where conditions reach 1200°C, this transmitter has proved very successful. These instruments, with their stainless steel horn antennas, can be placed up to 30 metres from the product. Low frequency microwaves are transmitted via special ceramic components soldered into a metal container and sealed with graphite, which can withstand the high temperatures.
As with all instruments in the Vega range, this model has embedded plics technology. This modular plug-in system allows for ease of set-up, maintenance, adjustment and service. An array of signal interfaces, from 4-20 mA/HART to Profibus PA and Fieldbus, are also catered for.
