Photoelectric sensors have traditionally required clean, stable operating conditions which do not often occur on the factory floor. Steam, water, dirt and contamination routinely degrade sensor performance, creating reliability problems that cost production time.

Telco Sensors, a specialist in sensing applications for harsh environments, has built its product range around these conditions. Its photoelectric eyes are designed to operate where moisture, particulate contamination and surface fouling would disable conventional sensors.

Its five-metre adjustable infrared proximity sensor operates in diffuse proximity mode without a reflector across the full 0 to five-metre range. Housed in a compact 50 x 50 mm rectangular enclosure, the unit accepts either cable or rotatable plug connection, and offers a wide supply voltage range of 10 to 30 V DC or 12 to 240 V AC/DC. This makes it straightforward to integrate into existing installations.

Sensitivity is set via potentiometer, and a switch selects between light and dark function. An adjustable on/off delay adds flexibility for applications where target presentation is variable. Output options cover 4-wire NPN/PNP transistor or 5-wire relay configurations. Power, output and signal level indicators are provided onboard.

Telco Sensors is a Danish designer, developer and manufacturer of a wide selection of photoelectric sensors, photoelectric amplifiers, light curtains and optical fork sensors. They find application in a broad range of industries where they are used for detecting, positioning, measuring, counting and sorting. These industries include sawmill and forestry, packaging, materials handling and processing, factory automation and controls, agriculture, fisheries, food processing, pharmaceuticals and mining.
