Analyser monitors gas impurities to ppb
May 2007
Analytical Instrumentation & Environmental Monitoring
The presence of trace impurities in gas supplies and ambient air are of significant concern for bulk gas producers, semiconductor manufacturers, plant environmental safety personnel, and research scientists. The presence of impurities can lower product quality, reduce process yields, skew research results, or indicate a possible environmental hazard.
The Trace Analytical ta3000 series of gas analysers from Ametek Process Instruments are designed to measure these trace impurities from parts per million (ppm) down to low parts per billion (ppb). All ta3000 instruments include a dedicated sample processing system, a single high sensitivity detector, and onboard analysis electronics.
The ta3000R uses a reduction gas detector for detection of H2, CO and unsaturated hydrocarbons down to 10 ppb. The ta3000F detects CO2, methane and non-methane hydrocarbons using a flame ionisation detector with a detection limit of 100 ppb.
Extreme sensitivity from ppm down to ppb levels and negligible matrix effects from permanent gases are the primary strengths of the ta3000 detectors. It is ideal for selective measurements of impurities in air, for pure gas quality control and research, and for numerous other gas monitoring applications. When interfaced with the Sigma400 Multipoint Stream Selector, the ta3000 can monitor several sampling points The Trace Viewer Software formats data, reports alarm status, and stores chromatograms on a local PC.
