More digital I/O lines in one card

The PCI-1753 from Advantech is a 96 bit digital I/O card for the PCI bus. It can be extended to 192 digital I/O channels by connecting it with its PCI-1753E extension board.

The card emulates mode O of the 8255 PPI chip, but the buffered circuits offer a higher driving capability than the 8255. The 96 I/O lines are divided into 12 eight bit I/O ports, and users can configure each port as input or output via software.

Each digital input channel accepts either 0-5 V d.c. wet or dry contact inputs. This dry contact capability allows the channel to respond to changes in external circuitry when no voltage is present in the external circuit.

Its reset function protects the system from harmful operation during unexpected system resets, while the interrupt functions ensure faster system response. Multiple interrupt request signals can be generated at the same time and the software can service these request signals by ISR. A 'pattern match' interrupt function for the AO port is also provided. The card monitors the state of the eight signal lines of port AO and compares them with a pre-set pattern.

The PCI-1753/E extension board has almost the same structure as the PCI-1753 but without an interface controller. It shares the latter's interface controller through a 100 mm flat connecting cable providing double the number of input/output lines.

For easy signal wiring, a PCI-1753 can be connected to two ADAM-3968 wiring terminals by using a 100-pin to 2x68-pin SCSI cable. The ADAM wiring terminal converts the 68-pin connector to two opto-22 compatible 50-pin box headers for connection to daughterboards such as the PCLD-782B and PCLD-785B.
