Safe remote I/O interface system

IS-RPI is a recent development in intrinsically safe process control. The Pepperl+Fuchs IS-RPI (intrinsically safe remote I/O system) can easily be adapted to new or existing remote I/O applications and communicates with the DCS or PLC through a fieldbus protocol. The intrinsically safe I/O modules are placed within the hazardous area (zone 1), close to the field devices, thus saving valuable installation, operation and maintenance expenses. Each high density function module will interface and control multiple channel I/O blocks. Up to 16 discrete inputs can be connected to a single module. A gateway, the link to the external bus system, will support up to 8 function modules, thus managing as many as 128 discrete signals. Additional gateways can be installed for multiple loops along one fieldbus (10 to 48 gateways depending on the fieldbus type). An explosion-proof power supply provides isolated intrinsically safe outputs which energise the function modules and gateways.
