Gas analysis close to the process

January 2001 Analytical Instrumentation & Environmental Monitoring

Rosemount Analytical believes that its new airless GCX gas chromatography transmitter has produced revolutionary savings, resulting in it having the lowest cost of ownership of any gas chromatograph.

Available from Alpret Control Specialists, and claimed by its manufacturers to revolutionise multicomponent analysis, the device unites all the features of a traditional chromatograph in compact transmitter package. The GCX is a fully microprocessor-based, standalone or network compatible analyser that can be easily installed close to the process, reducing sample lag times and installation cost. The instrument's modular design allows the complete electronics package or oven/chromatograph section to be removed for troubleshooting or replacement.

Summary of the instrument's features:

* Full-featured chromatograph in a compact, explosion-proof enclosure.

* Field-mountable for reduced sample lag times and improved process control.

* Low installation cost - no air, no shelter and low utility consumption.

* Foundation fieldbus communications.**

* Familiar web browser interface.

* Sealed compartments separate the electronics from dangerous process substances.

* Field-replaceable oven assembly.

* PlantWeb compatible.

* A low-cost alternative to conventional process GCs where field mounting w/o shelter or purge gas requirements are desired.

* A fully microprocessor-based, standalone or network compatible multicomponent analyser with an integral customised sample handling module.

* Built-in self-diagnostics with local and remote indication simplify troubleshooting and provide instrument critical information.

* Dual compartment housing separates electronics from dangerous or corrosive process materials.

* Patented state-of-the-art electronic pressure control.

* Sophisticated and intuitive user interface, including Quick-View diagnostic panel.

* No fuss, auto-ignite flame ionisation or thermal conductivity detector.

* Field-replaceable 'Easy-Slide' chromatograph oven assembly.

** Rosemount Analytical claims this instrument to be the only process gas chromatograph having Foundation Fieldbus communications.
