O2/combustibles analyser

January 2001 Analytical Instrumentation & Environmental Monitoring

Complementing Alpret's comprehensive range of liquid and gas analysers is a new O2/combustibles analyser from Rosemount Analytical's process analytic division. It offers easy installation, field-reparability and the ability to transmit process and diagnostic information directly to the control room. The OCX 4400 O2/combustibles transmitter uses the same high accuracy oxygen technology that is used in Rosemount Analytical's Oxymitter 4000 in situ oxygen transmitter. It adds to that a robust combustibles sensor for improved trim control and process, equipment and safety monitoring in process heater and process boiler applications.

The OCX 4400 integrates the electronics and sensor housings into a rugged, compact instrument that provides accurate, repeatable and stable measurements in process temperatures up to 1427°C. The integral sensor and electronics eliminates the need for cabling between the sensor housing and the electronics housing, reducing installation costs.

Its makers say that the instrument is the only O2/combustibles analyser that communicates enhanced diagnostic, calibration and set-up information directly to a central monitoring location using HART communications. This protocol facilitates consistent communication from virtually anywhere. The OCX 4400 also links into Fisher-Rosemount's PlantWeb field-based architecture and is totally compatible with and supported by the Fisher-Rosemount DeltaV, Ovation and AMS host systems. CSA, FM and Cenelec certifications for hazardous area applications are pending and the device will also offer Foundation Fieldbus communications in the near future.

With the addition of the OCX 4400, Rosemount Analytical now offers oxygen analysers for every application, from percent and trace analysers for process analysis to zirconium oxide-based oxygen analysers for combustion flue gas analysis. Rosemount Analytical combines the latest technology with rugged, field-mountable enclosures and advanced communications protocols for accurate analysis, reliability and low-cost installation and operation.

Fisher-Rosemount is a world-leading supplier of control valves, regulators, transmitters, analysers, process management systems and related services. Its innovative PlantWeb field-based architecture combines intelligent Fisher-Rosemount products with open communication standards to significantly enhance process and business performance. Rosemount Analytical also offers a full range of single or multichannel gas analysers. These use various technologies such as nondispersive infrared (NDIR), ultraviolet, thermal conductivity, chemiluminescent, and FID detectors. Complementing this is a full range of oxygen analysers using paramagnetic, electrochemical and zirconia methods of measurement.
