Passive component analyser to identify and measure components
October 2006Analytical Instrumentation & Environmental Monitoring
Any workshop or laboratory that has technicians working with printed circuit boards needs to have this essential device, the LCR40 is a passive component analyser which will automatically identify inductors, capacitors and resistors, and measure the main component value and other component details (for example coil inductance and DC resistance). The LCR40 works ideally on unmarked and surface mount designs. The features of the LCR40 include: automatic component identification, automatic test frequency selection, delayed or instant analysis for hands free operation, non volatile probe and test lead compensation, automatic ranging and scaling with real units display, and auto and manual power-off. PTPO3 interchangeable probe pack enables leaded and SMD device to be tested, and comprises SMD tweezers, long reach grabbers and crocodile clip probes.
A more cost effective version for engineering students, sole proprietor businesses and the smaller technical department is the DCA55 which is an intelligent component analyser that analyses a vast number of different component types including bipolar transistors, MOSFETs, thyristors, triacs, diodes, LEDs and others. It provides information such as component type, pin out and measurable parameters such as gain, gate threshold voltages and voltage drops. The DCA Peak Component Tester features include diode networks such as common anode, common cathode, series and inverse parallel types, scrollable pages of information, identification of special component features such as diode protection or resistor shunts on transistors, identification of different LED types such as two or three terminal bicolour types, automatic component identification, measurement of transistor gain from 2 to 65 000, measurement of MOSFET gate thresholds, measurement of semiconductor voltage drops for transistors, diodes and LEDS, and auto and manual power off.

Analytical Instrumentation & Environmental Monitoring
Cooling towers rely on evaporation to remove heat, but this process also concentrates dissolved solids in the system. Left unmanaged, this buildup can lead to scaling, corrosion and fouling, reducing efficiency and increasing maintenance costs.
