Electrical Power & Protection

All-in-one multipole lightning current and surge arresters

July 2006 Electrical Power & Protection

Dehnventil TT provides the same level of protection where previously up to 12 devices had to be installed and connected.

Providing maximum system availability, Dehnventil TT devices are easily installed in different types of power supply systems, with no need for calculations. Their discharge capability meets protection level 1 in accordance with EN 61643-11, the highest requirements of lightning protection at present. The devices are capable of protecting equipment, even in the case of a lightning strike with an intensity of up to 100 kA (10/350 µs).

By using the encapsulated spark gap technology, safety distances to adjacent components within the distribution cabinet are unnecessary. Even at fault currents up to 50 kA rms a 35 A fuse will not trip when Dehnventil TT extinguishes the follow-on current.

As the combined current and overvoltage arresters have no leakage current, direct use of the device upstream of the meter is possible, and when testing the insulation, no disconnection is required. Dehnventil TT is compatible with other surge arresters in the Dehn Red/Line family.

By using the twin terminals, which are suitable for all types of conductors, connection is easy, and inductive volt drop across long connecting cables is avoided. An additional bus bar terminal at the output increases the combination possibilities with other DIN rail mounted components.

Indication is provided by means of green lights, or if required, the optional Dehnsignal DV remote monitoring module designed to inform the user on the state of the protection, even when he is not on site.

All Dehnventil devices have an additional earth terminal. This allows a safe connection to the main earth bar as well as short connection to the protective earth conductor of the power supply system.
