An easy way to link inputs to outputs without a PLC, PC or master CPU, is by using Acromag Ethernet modules. Users can convert their sensor inputs at Point A (be it a six channel 4 to 20 mA, 0 to 10 V d.c. thermocouples/RTD input - or 12 digital inputs), to process signals at Point B (with a six channel 4 to 20 mA or 0 to 10 V d.c. output, or 12 digital input/outputs).
The modules have a built in 'web page', and are therefore configured using a standard web browser (such as Internet Explorer), so there is no need for any complicated programming software. Each unit can be set with an IP address. This allows the modules to be connected to existing infrastructure, such as existing network, whether it be copper, fibre or wireless network. Wireless solutions can also be offered. The digital modules allow for bi-directional communication.
A simple application example would be six 4 to 20 mA inputs on module A, connected to a network, and then, connected to the same network would be the output module, having six 4 to 20 mA outputs. Communication is performed via standard IP addressing over standard Ethernet. An input module speaks directly to an output module, and multiple modules can be connected or multiplexed, with the use of a standard network hub or switch.
