Stack gas analysis system

March 2006 Analytical Instrumentation & Environmental Monitoring

Horiba's ENDA-600 Series includes a single analyser unit that measures NOX, SO2, CO and CO2 and O2, setting a new standard for continuous emissions monitoring systems. Using cross-flow modulated NDIR detection, a method that is inherently drift-free and a magneto-pneumatic bench for oxygen measurement, the ENDA-600 Series provides long time stability, reducing the required frequency of calibrations.

A pyro-sensor acts as a CO2 interference sensor to monitor CO2 concentration in the sample gas. Since the analyser inherently has no zero drift, measurements are more stable over time. Due to this stability, the auto-calibration function is set to calibrate once in a seven-day period, and may be reset to calibrate from one to nine days.

A primary filter in the probe prevents dust from entering the sample system for applications with high-dust samples, such as coal fired boiler exhaust.

The ENDA-600 Series may be set to output instantaneous values on all five measured components, oxygen conversion values for three components, and the moving average for any two of the five measured components for a period anywhere from one to four hours.

An output port is optionally provided to connect the system with an external device for remote confirmation of the system's status. Since ambient air is used as the carrier gas for the oxygen bench, there is no need for cylinders of nitrogen carrier gas, saving valuable space and reducing operating costs. A stainless steel sample gas probe is connected directly to the primary filter, while the dehumidifying system minimises loss of SO2 and NO2 from the sample gas.

For samples containing flammable or poisonous gases, a sample return line and a sample purge line can be provided as options. An optional purged enclosure is also available for environments where flammable or poisonous gases may be present.
