System Integration & Control Systems Design

Open yet integrated enterprise solution

December 2000 System Integration & Control Systems Design

System302 was built to connect with the SAP R/3 ERP system so the user's sales department may now know what delivery they can promise for a new order and see the progress of existing orders, facilitating improved customer service. Accounts departments can directly find out how much has been delivered to the customer in order to invoice correctly in a timely manner. The system allows the user to coordinate sales, accounting and other business functions with plant floor information.

Open yet integrated

A suite of integrated software applications and wizards designed for each other and around key open technologies integrates seamlessly to the system hardware while at the same time having the ability to connect with hardware and software from other manufacturers - patching with drivers is not necessary. There is greater freedom to choose the desired parts and even build the system. Old proprietary technology still available today may not be available the day expansion is necessary. DMT recommends that investing in a modern standards-based system is crucial.

Scalable

To ensure that future expansion is possible without investing more than is affordable, plant owners have a need to respond quickly to changing market conditions. They may have to increase capacity, change to another product or adapt to some other demand. The flexibility and scalability of the System302 architecture allows reconfiguring and expansion of systems to the new conditions without major reinvestments. Precious capital need not be tied up, but can be used productively.

Manage process and devices

The system permits the management of process and devices from a single system. The workstations provide a user-friendly interface to all real information, anywhere in the plant, any time - allowing users to take better decisions with greater confidence. A single database ensures consistent information for everyone throughout the enterprise.

Proactive maintenance

Instrument management is an integral part - which helps to minimise downtime, thereby increasing capacity for more competitive delivery time and cost. Efficiently maintained devices means the user can produce better quality, cheaper.

Web connectivity

Since the system is based on TCP/IP, Internet connectivity, it allows the user to operate and configure remote units from a central location at the main plant site. Likewise, it allows sites, spread over a region or the world, to be managed from a central location within the enterprise. On a smaller scale, the system may be accessed from any computer if connected to an office LAN. Pooling and reduction of resources within the corporation is therefore possible, resulting in higher efficiency and savings.

Fieldbus expertise

DMT says that its engineering services available as part of the System302 product give a complete solution. DMT believes that its process knowledge makes it easy for the company to understand applications, build systems and communicate with customers and engineering companies.

Use of leading technology

Any technology change such as Fieldbus, Windows and OPC etc affects any company involved, including end-users. A plant using obsolete technology cannot compete with others. An engineering company insisting on obsolete engineering practises cannot build end-users the plants they need. Being late is also a risk; being early is an opportunity to establish a competitive leadership solution. Leaders are followed by others.
