There are several applications where pressure monitoring is called for in the petrochemical industry, and Vega, the German pressure and level manufacturer, has developed a range of pressure transmitters particularly suited to the industry.
Pressure transmitters in pipelines transporting crude oil or oil distillation products have to be able to withstand high overload conditions. The Vegabar 52 is well suited for this application and can be connected to a pipeline via impulse piping. With its mechanical construction and robust ceramic measuring cell, it is insensitive to pressure and temperature shocks.
The distillation columns in the processing facilities of a refinery also require pressure monitoring of the top pressure at the upper end of the column. Depending on the type of distillation, the systems operate under vacuum or extremely high pressures. The Vegabar 61, with its wide temperature range is especially well suited for this application. Even extreme temperature fluctuations during start-up phase in the column do not cause it any problems as the sensor version with isolator can be implemented in temperatures up to 400°C.
The petrochemical industry places high demands on housings, electronics and sensor elements. Operational reliability, especially with high process temperatures and pressures, and low maintenance costs are essential factors in selecting a sensor. These criteria are efficiently met by Vega's sensor technology.
