Industrial effluent and stormwater outlets normally flow into rivers. To protect these vital resources from pollution, it is necessary to regularly take samples at the drains, and have them analysed. An ideal instrument for this purpose is the Manning portable peristaltic fluid sampler from PREI Instrumentation which uses a unique 9,5 mm ID peristaltic pump that significantly increases tubing life without sacrificing pump performance. The body is less then 457 mm in diameter, so that the sampler can be suspended in manholes, and it can lift samples 8,2 m at 0,6 m/sec. There is space in the sampler for 24 1-litre bottles or a 20 litre bottle, and an insulated bottle case for ice.
A clear plastic cover enables visual inspection of the rollers and tubing without disassembling the pump. The enclosure for the bottles and for the microprocessor controller is rated NEMA 4X, which is watertight, dust tight and corrosion resistant.
These samplers have various bottle options suitable for composite or discrete sampling of toxic or non-toxic liquids. To ensure that laboratory analysis is meaningful, consistent and accurate samples are provided, even with changing head heights. There are a host of programming and datalogging features, including sampling based on external device input, which makes these samplers suitable for most applications.
