Humidity measurement in Ex areas
November 2005
Analytical Instrumentation & Environmental Monitoring
For accurate and risk-free humidity monitoring in areas with potentially explosive atmospheres, Jumo's new industrial transducers with intrinsically-safe electronics are designed to operate inside areas with a continually present explosion hazard (Zone 0), in accordance with Category II 1G.
The transducers are rugged and incorporate the latest sensor technology, ease of installation and friendly to use. Their modular construction ensures simple installation, even in difficult locations. Four parts that can be separated from each other (wall bracket, housing base, electronics section and probe) greatly facilitate installation, operation and maintenance. For example, the electronics section and the probe can be dismantled separately, without having to remove the connecting cable.
Five interchangeable probes, with cable lengths up to 10 m, lend themselves to a variety of applications in practically any industrial sector - including those in more demanding areas, including petrochemical foodstuffs industries. The probes can be removed and swapped with calibrated replacement probes, in order to maintain the measuring accuracy without requiring recalibration. The microprocessor-based electronics makes it possible to modify the transducer configuring flexibility at any time. In addition, other humidity variables, such as absolute humidity, mixing ratio and dew point can be output by using the optional software expansion. The transducers can be equipped with an integrated LC display/control panel. A standard 4 to 20 mA current signal is available as an output.
Approval for hazardous areas complies with the EU Directive 94/9/EC (ATEX). They also conform to the EMC product family standard EN 61 326 (EU Directive 89/336/EEC). The transducers meet the interference immunity requirements for the industrial sector and the interference emission requirements to Class B. Jumo is exclusively represented by Randburg company, ASSTech.
