Industrial Ethernet converters

Anticipating the growing demand for Ethernet-enabled devices, in 2004 Advantech introduced its serial to Ethernet and Ethernet to fibre-optic communication solutions. The company offers multiport modules for Ethernet switches, Ethernet data gateways and Ethernet media converters to allow legacy devices to connect to the Ethernet. Here are three of these products:

EDG 6528

This is an eight-port industrial 10/100 Mpbs Ethernet switch. It provides 8 x RJ-45 Ethernet ports, supports full/half duplex flow control, MDI/MDI-X auto crossover and broadcast storm protection. Auto-negotiation, store-and-forward transmission are also supported. There is built-in surge protection up to 3 kV d.c. and the device may be DIN rail or panel-mounted.

EDG-6528M/S

This device has six RJ-45 Ethernet ports and two multimode (M suffix)/single-mode (S suffix) 100 Mbps fibre ports. It also supports full/half duplex flow control, MDI/MDI-X auto crossover and broadcast storm protection. Auto-negotiation, store-and-forward transmission are also supported. There is built-in surge protection up to 3 kV d.c. and the device may be DIN rail or panel-mounted.

EDG-4508+/4516+

This is an eight-port RS232/422/485 data gateway. It offers auto-flow control. 10/100 MHz Ethernet networking, eight programmable DI/O, dual 24 V d.c. power input. It is a transparent data gateway - no extra Ethernet programming is necessary. It features remote monitoring and configuration via a Web browser. The gateway supports Universal Operating System and is configured for 1U rack mounting.
