The D-CEM1000/1001 single pass opacity monitor (see diagram) consists of a visible light transmitter and receiver arrangement with digital data processing in a local display unit. The monitors can display data in either opacity, extinction or dust density in mg/m3 or normalised dust density in mg/Nm3. The D-CEM1001 possesses four analog outputs for normalisation data; temperature, oxygen, pressure and water vapour.
These low-maintenance instruments are simple to install and their proven technology meets legislative requirements data in % opacity, mg/m3, mg/Nm3. Dust lens contamination is kept to a minimum by high-efficiency air purges.
Dual pass instrument
The D-CEM2100 opacity monitor is a dual-pass transmissometer configured for the measurement of opacity and dust concentration within the flue gas. Its unique optical arrangement provides continuous measurements of transmissivity of visible light across the flue in opposite directions, providing an accurate average of the dust loading within the duct, as well as a dynamic assessment of any misalignment errors that may occur due to duct movement. Other features include an auto zero and span check, normalised reporting and remote display of data in % opacity, mg/m3, mg/Nm3 dust.

At its peak in 1994, the energy generation capacity of the UK’s nuclear power stations was 12,7 GW across 16 plants. In 2024, the capacity has fallen to around 5 GW, and the number of stations is down to nine. However, this is far from the end of the story as spent nuclear fuel remains radioactive for centuries, and requires rigorous safety processes to safeguard against leaks.
