Sniffing for gas leaks

May 2005 Analytical Instrumentation & Environmental Monitoring

Afriso-Euro-Index's Sniffer series gas detectors are designed to detect even the smallest leaks in gas pipe systems. They enable rapid and easy detection of gas leaks even at points that are difficult to access. The gas detectors operate with a state-of-the-art electronic system based on SMD technology.

The sensor head is located at the tip of a flexible arm with a diameter of 8 mm in such a way that excess gas concentrations are detected with extremely short response times. The units generate audible and visible alarms. The flexible arm, which is securely mounted to the device, can easily be guided to the potential leakage point with one hand. The high sensitivity allows for the fast detection of a broad range of flammable gases such as methane, ethane, propane, butane, hydrogen and alcohol. The integrated sensor provides maximum sensitivity in the detection of methane.

The Sniffer series comprises two professional device types adapted to different applications. The battery-operated Sniffer GSP1 is a suitable solution for anybody having to perform numerous measurements. A luminous band consisting of 20 diodes enables high-precision selective measurements. Gas concentrations of up to 2000 ppm are displayed by the luminous band. Concentrations above 2000 ppm are indicated by the red alarm diode and a buzzer integrated in the device.

Sniffer GSP2 is the device of choice for all standard applications. Excessive gas concentrations are signalled by an LED and a buzzer. The devices are offered with batteries or rechargeable batteries with a service time of approximately 15 hours, which equates to approximately 1000 measurements.
