Second Kroondal contract for B&W

May 2005 System Integration & Control Systems Design

B&W Instrumentation and Electrical is on schedule to complete its second major contract within two years at AQP (SA)'s Kroondal Platinum Mine near Rustenburg, this time at the mine's new UG2 concentrator.

The R10 million contract, which comprises the complete electrical, instrumentation and control installation at the concentrator, started in September 2004 and is due for completion in May 2005. It overlaps an 18-month underground electrical contract at Kroondal Platinum, also awarded to B&W by Dowding, Reynard and Associates (DRA) as part of the Pooling and Sharing (PSA) Project underway at the mine. On the instrumentation side, the concentrator contract includes the installation of Profibus and AS-I systems, an area of expertise within B&W. It also calls for both cold and hot commissioning.

B&W's impeccable safety record is an important consideration in the award of contracts of this nature and the company employs a full-time officer to ensure the safety of the 170-strong team on site. B&W has a Lost Time Injury Frequency Rate of 0 - an outstanding performance in the mining industry. The Kroondal contract is B&W's eighth concentrator project. The picture shows electrical and instrumentation cable racking exiting from the main substation constructed by B&W for the new UG2 concentrator at AQP (SA)'s Kroondal Platinum Mine.
