Twenty years on and still growing strong

Endress+Hauser South Africa has marked its twenty-year anniversary in South Africa with the opening of its expanded and upgraded premises in Sandton, Johannesburg, which includes a new training facility for up to 120 delegates. The occasion was officiated by Klaus Endress, son of founder member Dr Georg H. Endress, and was attended by local management, staff, customers and business partners.

This 20-year celebration demonstrated Endress+Hauser's commitment to its South African operation, supporting the company even through difficult political, social and economic times. "This dedication has seen Endress+Hauser progressing in every conceivable area. From one branch, with 10 staff members and a turnover of R6,6 million in 1987, we now have eight national branches, 70 members of staff and a turnover of no less than R120m in 2004, making us one of South Africa's leading suppliers of measuring instruments and solutions to the industrial process and engineering industries. In addition, Endress+Hauser now has seven strategic agents working in Africa, and our strategy for the New Year includes six initiatives all linked to growth," said Tony Jacobsen, managing director, Endress+Hauser.

In his presentation, Klaus Endress commented on how the South African company provides a quality of service equivalent to any of the other leading international operations. "He credited this success to the dedication and commitment of our local team," states Grant Joyce, marketing manager, Endress+Hauser. Klaus Endress' one-week trip to South Africa also included key customer visits and discussions on global market trends.

As Endress+Hauser moves into the future, it has implemented and defined a BBBEE policy, which includes an employment equity plan and an affirmative action programme. In addition, the company has defined specific social responsibilities within the community. HIV/AIDS and the education and training of individuals from previously disadvantaged backgrounds have been identified as areas of concern in the community.
