Cost-effective ion measurement
October 2004
Analytical Instrumentation & Environmental Monitoring
The FPA-200 Series online analysers from Tytronics provide simple, reliable and cost-effective online selective ion measurements. The analysers are particularly suited for measuring cyanide in wastewater, and fluoride and ammonia in drinking water.
By using a known addition measurement technique, the instruments provide more consistent results than direct electrode measurement. Instrument results are not affected by electrode drift or sample matrix effects and accuracy is ensured. A siphon captures the sample and a single Teflon valve is used in the sample stream. The reagent is automatically added to condition the sample to avoid interference or to adjust the ionic strength of the sample.
The FPA 200 software provides for two analytical methods, namely direct measurement and known addition. Analyses are fully automatic in all cases. Through menu-driven programming the user can easily change the frequency of analysis and calibration, as well as most default values to improve performance for specific site conditions. Components are contained in two purgeable NEMA 12 enclosures. The sample enters through fittings at the bottom of the lower enclosure, flowing through the inlet valve and into the sample cell via the manifold. Flow is controlled by the inlet valve and the air vent valve. The FPA200 Series provide a good economic return as chemical consumption is reduced and operating efficiency is increased.
