Tytronics' FPA 200 online ISE analyser measures ammonia using an ion selective electrode. The instrument's batch sampling technique ensures that analytical results are not affected by sample or reagent flow rates.

The FPA 200 uses a known addition measurement technique. Known addition provides faster and more consistent results than a direct electrode measurement. A 20 ml sample is captured in the instrument, sodium hydroxide/EDTA reagent is added, and then an aliquot of standard is added to the sample. From the change in potential before and after the addition, the original sample concentration is determined. The advantage of the known addition technique is that the electrode drift will not affect instrumental results.

Electrode slope is automatically determined by using a standard of known concentration and performing a single known addition on a standard. Instrument accuracy is ensured through the use of the known addition technique and automatic slope determination. Tytronics is represented locally by Protea Automation Solutions.
