Systems specialist with a different PLC strategy
November 2000
PLCs, DCSs & Controllers
In the area of PLC marketing, many companies have adopted a strategy of having the software they offer being their main source of revenue. Ana-digi believes that the problem with this strategy is that after clients have already bought the hardware and made a large initial investment in software, many find out that they still have to spend even more on software. Ana-digi believes that the LG approach is 'refreshingly different', as here the equipment is the marketing strategy.
LG products feature IEC 1131-3 standardised programming language and full-function, high-speed processors. LG's answer to the on-going argument, over which system bus is the best, has been to offer the client the opportunity to choose the protocol they require to be written to the CPU. This user-defined protocol will allow communication with other makes of PLC, variable speed drive, HMI, etc over RS422/485 or RS232. Almost universal compatibility has been made available - without compromising system integrity.
Three levels of PLC are being launched in South Africa, these being the GM4, GM6 and GM7. The three levels cater for requirements ranging from basic standalone units up to extensive network systems, including I/O modules and allowing for distributed control.
Ana-digi is offering the above, with 'no cost software' and full after-sales service for all automation requirements.
