Durag's D-R216 smoke density meter applies the two-beam alternate light method following the auto-collimation principle, which allows the light beam to cross the measuring section twice. The unit measures and evaluates the weakening light beam caused by dust content within the measuring section.
Typical monitoring applications include for use in heating plants, industrial boiler plants, waste incinerators, dust extraction and filtering systems and emissions monitoring and control in the process industries. An electromagnetically actuated rotary diaphragm switches between the measuring beam and a comparator light beam. Comparative measurements of two seconds duration occur every 64 seconds for check value compensation.
A photocell receives the measuring and comparator light beam alternatively. As the emitter light is modulated with 25 Hz, no daylight influences will occur. A separate purge air fan keeps the heated optical boundary surfaces free from soiling.
Two models are available, one to measure opacity and the other dust concentration in mg/m3. The units are suitable for stack diameters ranging from 0,4 to 6,25 m, they have a 4 to 20 mA output signal and meet IP65 requirements.

Cooling tower bleed control
Analytical Instrumentation & Environmental Monitoring
Cooling towers rely on evaporation to remove heat, but this process also concentrates dissolved solids in the system. Left unmanaged, this buildup can lead to scaling, corrosion and fouling, reducing efficiency and increasing maintenance costs.
