Continuous online monitoring for TICs or VOCs

Analytical Instrumentation & Environmental Monitoring
South Africa has the privilege of being able to claim that its tap water is 100% safe to drink, and our rivers, lakes and dams remain fairly pollution free encouraging the development of aquatic life. It is, however, recognised that water could at any stage be unintentionally polluted with toxic industrial chemicals (TICs) or volatile organic compounds (VOCs) either accidentally in a chemical plant accident (or road or rail incident where the chemicals are being carried in a container) or deliberately by terrorist organisations. The other fear of water authorities that use chlorinated water is that trihalomethanes (THMs) could be introduced into the water if certain other organic substances are present.
The Scentograph CMS500 was designed by Inficon to operate as a continuous on-line chemical monitoring system for all of the above substances. It can operate automatically and unattended while providing reliable realtime measurements. Using gas chromatograph (GC) technology allows the system to accurately measure concentrations ranging from high ppm to low parts-per-trillion. The CMS500 is suitable for chemical security requirements for all water sources and can also be used to ensure regulatory compliance in the case of wastewater discharge or storm water monitoring.
A sister product to the CMS500 is the Scentograph CMS100 which is a totally portable gas chromatograph designed for rapid in-field analysis of VOCs. The CMS100 can be used to detect and identify sulphur-based products occasionally emitted by petroleum plants.

Cooling tower bleed control
Analytical Instrumentation & Environmental Monitoring
Cooling towers rely on evaporation to remove heat, but this process also concentrates dissolved solids in the system. Left unmanaged, this buildup can lead to scaling, corrosion and fouling, reducing efficiency and increasing maintenance costs.
