Powerful drives made smaller

April 2004 Motion Control & Drives Products & Solutions

Using the latest design techniques, components and manufacturing processes, Danfoss believes it has succeeded in building electronic motor controls with unsurpassed power density. Danfoss Drives' powerful VLT series now comes in enclosures that are said to be the smallest IP54/NEMA 12 full-featured drive on the market.

The redesigned drives comprises VLT 5000 series ranging from 90 to 200 kW for industrial applications and VLT 6000 HVAC series and VLT 8000 AQUA series ranging from 110 to 250 kW. All redesigned units offer the same operating software as the rest of their respective VLT motor control series, thus facilitating ease-of-transition to new drives. Using the latest design techniques, components and manufacturing processes, the new enhanced designs provide customers with high quality and reliability, easy maintenance and ease of installation, reducing the time for mounting and commissioning and reducing costs. Enhanced features of the redesigned units include:

* Integral disconnect with option of available fuses.

* New power termination design for easy installation, accepting single box lug or dual cable legs.

* Logic routing includes tie down provisions to ease installation and protect against noise disturbance.

* 98% operating efficiency.

* Options available for easy installation of IP00 units in Rittal TS8 enclosures.

* Ambient temperature ratings of 45°C in constant torque mode, 40°C in variable torque mode and up to 50°C with changes in output switching pattern.
