AS-i four-channel analog modules with 'plug-and-play'

December 2003 Fieldbus & Industrial Networking

The new AS-i Smartline and Classic 4 Channel Analog modules from IFM Electronic enable connection to an AS-i master according to the 2.1 specification by simple 'plug-and-play'. The analog values can be transmitted without further software as all the required handling is done by the master's firmware.

The slaves are connected to the AS-i interface via the classic Combicon connectors with IP20 protection and via a conventional base for the IP67 modules. Sensors and actuators are connected by means of one connector per analog channel to allow easy replacement of individual peripheral units. Powerful LEDs on the front panel indicate the state of the analog channels, voltage supply and any possible module faults. The analog slaves support the new AS-i functions of peripheral fault and communication error detection.

An analog slave is identified by its profile, then master and slave automatically start the data exchange. There is no need to program special function blocks to control and handle the analog protocol. The values of the PT100 temperature module are transmitted directly in the physical unit °C, so they are available without further conversion. Addressing is done before mounting via the adapter integrated in the addressing unit or after mounting by means of a module with addressing socket and addressing cable with a jack plug.

All standard units with 0 or 4 to 20 mA or 0 to 10 V can be connected to the universal analog slaves. For small loads, the current supply is directly taken from the yellow flat cable, or if a greater current is required, it can be supplied from an external 24 V source.
