The new wireless instrumentation concept launched by Elpro Technologies from Australia is solving problems in mobile applications in SA. UniTemp has received orders from both the beer industry and the mining sector. Although from very diverse industries the applications have one thing in common: solving data transfer where mobility is essential.
Elpro's WIB concept is designed to link field instrumentation, PLC, scada and radio telemetry function into one system that overcomes many constraints imposed by conventional cabling. Interfaces allow the easy and cost-effective integration of Profibus, Modbus, Ethernet and remote telemetry I/O without the worries of protocol conversions - for example, it will allow PLCs with different protocols to exchange information without the need of special drivers, software adaptations, etc.
"The recent system delivered to a major brewery is the third Elpro system operating on the same plant. However, the new interfaces have simplified the application, decreases implementation time and lowers costs," says Dieter Bütow, marketing manager for UniTemp.
