Range of field gas detectors

August 2003 Analytical Instrumentation & Environmental Monitoring Products & Solutions

The Captex and CEX 800 detectors are meant for small size applications. The most widely used detector type CEX 810 AD is a three-wire bridge signal, housed in a flame-proof enclosure.

For high temperatures (up to 250°C) a special version type CEX 810 HT is available.

The CEX 810 G uses a thermal conductivity sensor and is suitable for measuring % volume levels of gases (0-100%).

The CEX 820 with its built-in transmitter (4-20 mA signal output) can be linked to any control panel. Operating from 24 V d.c. nominal (19 to 32 V d.c.), the CEX 870 returns a linear 4-20 mA signal on a three-wire connection. The built-in LED display unit and the maintenance switch located in an intrinsically safe compartment, allow easy maintenance and one-man calibration.

Several specific sensors are available for the CEX 870 detectors, ie NH3, H2, poison-resistant pellistors for environment containing traces of silicones, chlorinated compounds etc.

The CSC 870 uses a semiconductor gas sensor technology. It is a leak seeking/alarm device for harsh environments containing H2S solvents.

At its peak in 1994, the energy generation capacity of the UK’s nuclear power stations was 12,7 GW across 16 plants. In 2024, the capacity has fallen to around 5 GW, and the number of stations is down to nine. However, this is far from the end of the story as spent nuclear fuel remains radioactive for centuries, and requires rigorous safety processes to safeguard against leaks.
