Electrochemical gas sensors

e2v technologies has introduced a new range of electrochemical gas sensors. Available in two sizes, the sensors are designed for the measurement of oxygen, carbon monoxide and hydrogen sulphide, together with a high performance dual sensor for the detection of carbon monoxide and hydrogen sulphide. These sensors are drop-in replacements for the existing 20 and 32 mm diameter sensors.

Electrochemical sensors operate on a different principle from the pellistor and IR types. In essence, the target gas undergoes a chemical reaction, producing a current that is directly proportional to the concentration of the gas present. The sensors use very little power and display good responses to various gas concentrations over a wide range of ambient conditions.

Designed for high volume manufacture, the sensors have been developed to combine high performance electrode capability with an optimised mechanical design. The overall result is a range of sensors with good gas responses, without the leakage problems experienced with other less mechanically advanced designs.
