Portable multigas monitor

May 2003 Analytical Instrumentation & Environmental Monitoring

The Oldham MX21 Plus multigas monitor is a versatile, modern gas monitor, suitable for risk assessment, occupational hygiene and mine environmental control. It incorporates a self-diagnostic function that indicates any irregularities in its operation and therefore provides complete confidence measurement.

This portable multigas monitor can detect up to four gases simultaneously and includes features such as data logging, interchangeable pre-calibrated sensor blocks and instantaneous STEL and TWA alarms. The unit is programmable via serial link from a PC or via a user-friendly menu interface and is approved for use in hazardous areas. The use of intelligent plug-in sensor modules gives the MX21 an extended range of toxic sensors (20 plus) including CO2, CO, H2S, SO2, Cl2, NO, NO2, HCN, HF, PH3, O3, H2, solvents, etc.

The instrument has the ability to measure CH4 in % volume as well as % LEL with a library of 32 pre-programmed flammable gases to allow for more accurate monitoring of specific flammable gases by simply selecting the target gas, eg, CH4, H2, butane, petrol vapour, from a menu.

Applications would include personnel working in areas likely to contain flammable or toxic gases or an oxygen-depleted atmosphere, eg, steel industry, petrochemicals heavy industry, factories, manholes, grain silos, smelters and melt-houses.
