Pressure Measurement & Control

Vega - pressure instrumentation for all industries

August 2011 Pressure Measurement & Control

Pressure transmitters from Vega are hard at work in the chemical and pharmaceutical industries, in process and environmental engineering, in paper and ceramics manufacture, in mining, in power generation and in the transport, food and water and waste water sectors – applications in the marine and aerospace industries round out the range.

Universally applicable

Vega has solutions for all pressure-related applications. Its pressure transmitters with diverse performance features can be applied for liquids or gases as well as abrasive and corrosive media. The instruments can withstand temperatures up to 400°C and process pressures up to 1000 bar. They are vibration and shock resistant and can be submersed in water up to a depth of 600 m.

Trendsetting pressure instrumentation

All core technologies, like the ceramic-capacitive Certec measuring cell, are developed at Vega’s own facilities and all instruments are manufactured there as well. At the centre of Vega’s technology is plics, a modular product concept that allows individual combinations of performance characteristics to fulfil virtually any demand in the area of pressure measurement.

Consistently best technology

Vega develops all of its pressure transmitters at its facility in Germany. The assembly of circuit boards and the manufacturing of Certec and Metec measuring cells are carried out at the Vega plant. With plics instruments environmental concerns are also considered throughout the value chain, from the choice of raw materials to production and disposal.

Quality from the start

During quality assurance tests, every measuring cell is checked for tightness in the helium leak tester to ensure that no leakage and subsequent malfunctions occur in the field. In addition, every cell passes through a test run in the temperature range -20 to 100°C to eliminate temperature related failures. Each production stage is checked and documented and the traceability of every pressure transmitter is guaranteed through its serial number.

Pressure measurement in mechanical engineering

The compact Vegabar 14 and 17 are the ideal sensors for applications in mechanical engineering. The Certec measuring cell in the Vegabar 14 and the metallic measuring cell in the Vegabar 17 offer a wide variety of potential solutions. The service-proven metallic thin film measuring cell can handle measuring tasks up to 1000 bar reliably and when equipped with a cooling element can operate in temperatures up to +150°C.

Typical applications would be monitoring chlorine and water pumps, compressed air, feed pressure control in viscous media and for pressure measurement of exhaust fumes, oil, fuel and combustion air on an engine test bench.

Differential pressure measurement in process engineering

Hardly any other measuring principle is as versatile as differential pressure technology. Along with regular and differential pressure measurement, the differential pressure sensor can also measure level, flow and density. The basis for this precise and stable measurement is the metallic, overload-resistant differential pressure measuring cell.

The differential pressure Vegadif can be used under the toughest conditions and can even be supplied with remote electronics for hazardous area applications. There is thus no need for expensive capillary fittings and impulse pipes in the field.

Pressure measurement with ceramic-capacitive measuring cells

The Vegabar 52 and 54 sensors are versatile and extremely robust. With an oil-free Certec measuring cell, they are characterised by a high resistance to abrasion and shocks and self monitoring capability. Both models can be delivered with any standard industry process fitting.

The measuring cell of SapphireCeramic is one of the most mechanically robust and dynamically resilient pressure measuring cells in use; extremely high purity guarantees chemical and abrasive resistance. Typical applications are found in pump monitoring, for batch vessels in the pharmaceutical industry, installed in the bleaching tower in the paper industry and as a vacuum monitoring device in distillation columns.

Pressure measurement with metallic measuring cells

The Vegabar 53 handles measurement tasks reliably in systems with high process pressures or in processes where an elastomer-free seal is required. In the pharmaceutical and food industry, there are versions available that can withstand the high temperatures necessary for cleaning (up to +150°C) and have an FDA compliant oil filling.

The Vegabar 53 is suitable for steam pressure measurement, to measure pipeline pressure in a dairy, to monitor hydraulic feed pumps and product pipelines and to measure gas pressure in LNG tanks.

Pressure measurement for hot and aggressive media

The versatile and hard-wearing Vegabar 51 and 55 pressure transmitters stand out due to their application versatility. A wide variety of diaphragm materials and coatings make the Vegabar 51 the basic instrument for the chemical and petrochemical industry. The Vegabar 55, with its specially developed Metec measuring cell, offers solutions for the pharmaceutical, chemical and food industries.

These pressure transmitters have a self-compensating temperature characteristic which provides very high measurement precision. The instrument guarantees a maximum measurement error of <1% in the temperature range of -12 to 200°C.

Level and water level measurement in demanding applications

The suspension pressure transmitters Vegabar 66 and Vegabar 67 are the optimal solution for all critical level and water level measurements such as in food vessels, highly ionised water or in sewers. The Vegabar 66 is particularly suitable due to its abrasion resistance and numerous plastic options. The Vegabar 67, with its gap-free tube version of stainless steel and Metec measuring cell, lends itself especially well to use in food vessels.

The compensated electronics module allows application of the measuring cell even under the influence of extreme condensation. Equipped with two absolute pressure measuring cells, the instrument is insensitive to environmental moisture and offers high reliability.

Water level measurement with ceramic-capacitive measuring cells

Vega’s suspension pressure transmitter Vegawell 52 has been designed for use in virtually any water level measurement application, including the control of ground-water pumps, ballast water measurement on ships, flow rate measurement in weir spillways and level measurement in oil tanks.

The front-flush Certec measuring cell is abrasion resistant and chemically stable in sewerage and saltwater and the instrument is protected against shock to withstand the effects of breaking waves and debris in the measured medium.

The immersion probe of this suspension pressure transmitter resists ambient pressures up to 60 bar and can therefore be immersed in water to a depth of 600 m. Additionally, every Vegawell unit is equipped with an integrated overvoltage protection system that protects the device from lightning strikes and electrical surges.
