Hirschmann software for industrial firewalls

Profitek has released an upgrade of its Hirschmann EAGLE20 software.
The EAGLE20 v4.4 software will be installed on all newly bought Hirschmann devices, and available free of charge for existing customers.
One of the key new features is off-line configuration. ‘Virtual’ devices can be configured using a PC and this configuration can later be downloaded to real devices. According to Profitek sales director, Fons de Leeuw this is a novelty for Industrial Ethernet firewalls.
The EAGLE20 web interface is intuitive, user friendly, includes wizards for more complex tasks and has a hypertext index help identify where to configure specific functionality. The web interface is available as a java application running on a PC to simulate connection to a real device. Users can configure the required parameters, save them to a configuration file, and upload later on to an EAGLE20 platform. The benefit is that it is possible to configure the network security without having the actual devices. This ensures that installation engineers spend as little time as possible on-site.
“For a network engineer, on-site hardware configuration during network commissioning can be a stressful and time-consuming experience. The off-line configuration application alleviates this problem, resulting in faster network installation. In addition, reduced configuration errors culminate in higher network availability,” continues de Leeuw.
In addition to offline configuration, the new software offers other advanced security features such as 1 to 1 NAT inside a VPN and VPNs without certificates.
